I use these in home brewing, when you take a wine off the first ferment and rack it, these are great to sanitize and drop in to take up head space in your bottle so its full to the top. They fit down a regular old walmart funnel so you can add them in quickly.

…for a 9.5 inch deep dish pie. These are as functional as expected but 2.5 pounds (1 package) of the Gretel Glass Baking Pie Weights is not quite enough for a 9.5 deep dish pie if you are wanting the weights to go to the rim to help hold the fluting in place. I’ll likely purchase more or add some dried beans to the mix.Just so there is no confusion I will state (as is mentioned elsewhere): one does not pour these directly into an unbaked pie shell. It is necessary to LINE THE PIE SHELL with foil or parchment paper THEN place the pie weights onto the lined shell. Otherwise one will be picking pie weights out of the pie crust.

The clear glass Gretel Baking Glass Pie Weights are worth the little extra money. Plenty of weights and a sturdy bag in which to store them. Very pleased. Could make a nice gift for any baker. Instructions say to wash and dry glass weights before first use. I also washed and dried the cloth bag before putting the weights back into the bag.

To the people who ask, do not put hot borosilicate glass into cold water. They will break and probably shatter!

  5. Natalie (verified owner)

These are the perfect size and weight to bake an even pie crust. I had been using dry beans but they didn’t really work very well. I love these!

  6. Rudy Krafft (verified owner)

Cleans easily. The bag is useful for storing. Need two orders to fill a pie.

  7. Mona (verified owner)

A great investment! It is worth the price. It did the job

After reading many reviews for pie weights, I was happy that these glass marbles were attractive, were easy to clean and there were plenty of them to weigh down my pie crust. They come in a thick drawstring bag for easy storage, too. There is no worry about them discoloring or absorbing water either. Be sure to put down a layer of parchment paper on top of the raw crust before pouring the marbles in. No more using dried beans or rice for me!

  9. Kjane

This was great for my Thanksgiving pies!

  10. Jane

These are great! No dust, worked well.

  11. N Bonomo

These worked great for blind baking my pies. Plenty for one pie. Nice sturdy bag for storing them.

After doing research, got these since they are made with glass. Worked as intended in 6inch pie plates. And easy to clean. So far no issues.

  13. LPro (verified owner)

I love these weights. Being glass, they don’t have the possible dust like ceramic and they are very easy to clean. I absolutely recommend these over ceramic.

  14. M. Duras (verified owner)

Beautifully packaged for a gift for a baker. Easy to clean. Reusable. My ceramic pie weights used to get a rancid smell despite using parchment paper. It was impossible to clean them. These are easy to use. Keep a silicone bowl or towel lined bowl ready to empty them into since you can burn yourself easily when transferring them back to a cool down site.

  15. Queenbee10418 (verified owner)

I purchase these as a gift for a friend who didn’t know that you need them to bake a shell. She is very happy with them

  16. Lou Ann Frost (verified owner)

I really like the weight and easy to clean glass. The drawstring bag is attractive.

I’ve baked gluten free pies for years, and when a crust needed to be pre-baked I’ve always filled it with rice or beans. But I discovered that doing that really reduced the shelf life of the rice or beans, so I decided to try these. I should have ordered them years ago! They work great! I line my crust with parchment paper and pour them into it. This amount is perfect for a 9″ pie pan, filled all the way to the top. The crust stays perfectly flat against the pan. When the crust is done, I lift the parchment paper out and set it on a paper towel to cool before pouring the balls back into the nice storage bag. When I need to wash the balls, I do them in a colander so they stay together for washing, rinsing, and drying. Easy, easy, easy. I’m glad I got glass instead of ceramic because they won’t ever absorb anything from the food.

Easy to use, easy to store.

  19. Christina Moore (verified owner)

Clear and heavy. Easy to clean in a collander but if you use foil to blind bake there is no need. These cool quicky.

  20. J. L. Strouble (verified owner)

I chose these glass pie weights because it seemed they would be easier to keep clean than ceramic pie weights. Their surface won’t break down into dust like ceramics can and they shouldn’t be prone to mold in our long, humid, southern summers where anything that doesn’t get used on a weekly basis eventually grows mold. They are clear glass, the size of small marbles, and come in an attractive drawstring cloth storage pouch. The 2.5 lbs is plenty to fill a 9-inch pie plate. I actually use them in a 9-inch deep-dish plate and they fill it to the rim. The quiche crusts I’ve parbaked turned out perfect. My coin collection is going back in its jar for good. Pie weights are the way to go and these glass pie weights are the best!

I’ve wanted an alternative to the chalky, impossible to clean ceramic pie weights- these are outstanding.

  22. Charlotte Chamberlain (verified owner)

Great. Package was late due to snow trouble. I will order another set there are some that are malformed. But great to have

  23. Kathy M (verified owner)

Used for pie crust and it works

  24. Teresa G. (verified owner)

Pie weights are easy to clean and do well with heavy and light doughs.

  25. Kristina / Jared Schwiner (verified owner)

Love these. Always wanted some pie weights, the husband surprised me with these. Lol he loves pie. Works great. Easy to use, clean and game changer for my pie crusts.

  26. Stephanie Gubish (verified owner)

I have used these multiple times, and so far so good. They perform as expected. I place parchment paper on top of the pie crust, then place the beads on top of that, and that works splendidly. I also really appreciate the cloth storage bag.

  27. Bobby (verified owner)

Comes with plenty of weights for my tart pan. Good size bead. Easy to clean. Bag had some loose threads, but I much prefer the cloth bag to a plastic box.

  28. IPH (verified owner)

I really like these. I have to figure out an easier way to get them from the pie plate into the bag without having them spill all over the place. They are excellent weights for blind-cooking a pie crust. love these.

  29. Lou M (verified owner)

Great pie weights. Easier to clean than the ceramic ones and more than adequate amount. Did a great job on my peanut butter pie crust.

  30. Anonymous (verified owner)

I prefer glass pie weights – no dust

  31. Jean (verified owner)

What I did discover was that you should put a piece of parchment paper down first. It keeps the crust from forming bubbles on the bottom. Always had a problem with that.

  32. Boobie (verified owner)

I like these. No more poking my pie shells.

  33. Mike in AZ

    Easy to use. Good price
