How to fold our tall cake boxes, step by step

Our tall cake boxes ship flat so they reach you undamaged. Both sizes – 8 × 8 × 8 in and 10 × 10 × 8 in – fold the same way, in one piece, with no tape or glue. The clever part is the back: it stays open until step 4, so you slide the cake in on its board instead of lowering it in over the walls.

In the pack: ten flat boxes, each one piece with the window already fitted.

Step by step

Step 1: the flat cake box blank
1. Lay the box flat.
Step 2: front and side walls folding up
2. Fold up the front (window) wall and both side walls. Fold the bottom flaps of the side walls onto the floor of the box.
Step 3: front and side walls standing, back still open
3. Fold the side flaps of the side walls. The back is still open: this is the easiest moment to slide the cake in on its board.

Loading the cake

After step 3 the front and sides are standing and the back lies flat on the counter, level with the floor of the box. Set the cake board on the floor of the box and push on the board, never the cake, until it sits centered behind the window. Then carry on with step 4.

4. Fold up the back wall and push its two tabs into the slits on the side tabs of the side walls.
Step 5: the top panels folding in so the handle halves meet
5. Fold both top panels in until the two halves of the handle meet.

6. Insert the tabs on each end of the handle into the slits on the side flaps so it locks the top together.

Tips

  • Crease firmly along every score line. If you want an even sharper crease, make the fold the opposite way first.
  • Chill the cake before boxing it.
  • Carry it by the handle with a hand under the base, and in the car put it on a flat floor, not a seat.
  • Some small cut-out pieces may hang on in the slits. Press them out and they’ll separate cleanly.

Which cake fits?
